How to find a duty rate
- Determine the full HTS classification, product description and country of origin.
- Consult the applicable schedule for the entry date and identify the relevant general or special rate.
- Review Chapter 99 and other measures, including product-specific trade remedies and their conditions.
- Check fees, valuation and eligibility for any preferential treatment with a licensed customs broker.
Why category averages are not a quote
Two items in the same broad category can have different classifications, rates and additional duties. A rate may also depend on quantity, weight, material or product-specific conditions. Use the legal description and notes for the actual goods.
Percentage, specific and compound rates
A percentage rate is applied to the relevant customs value. A specific rate uses a stated quantity, such as weight or number of units; a compound rate combines elements. A displayed base rate may exclude additional measures and fees. Confirm the units, valuation and legal conditions before treating a rate as a total.
